BRATWURST- A FAMILY TRADITION
The first documented evidence of bratwurst comes from Germany and dates back to 1313, in the Franconian region of Bavaria.
Recipes for the sausage very by region and even locale; some sources list over 40 different varieties of German bratwurst, many of the best-known originating in Franconia (today for the most part situated in northern Bavaria).
In my house growing up any recipe that started with "open two bottles of beer" was automatically a hit and considered tradition. In this case there is actually used in the recipe.
I learned to how to cook bratwurst from my grandmother and I would love to give her credit for this recipe. Our bratwurst is locally made, grilled to perfection, and then boiled in a traditional "batter" which consists of beer,onions and a few secret ingredients. My family has enjoyed bratwurst prepared this way for generations, and now I bring this traditional family staple to you....
